Overall, my experience with the Professional Practice course has been truly valuable. Activities like setting up a LinkedIn profile, researching food and pharma companies in the GTA, and participating in peer mock interviews as an HR helped me gain insights into the industry and boosted my confidence. Even though the course is fully online and keeping up with weekly assignments can feel stressful at times, it really encourages self-learning and prepares you well for the professional world. My advice to juniors would be to stay active, manage your time wisely, and make the most of every activity—because in the end, it all adds up to a stronger, more confident version of yourself.

If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be this: take every activity seriously, no matter how small it may seem. Each RCA, SOP review, and documentation task is designed to mirror what you’ll encounter in the industry. Treat them as real-world simulations and take the opportunity to practice accuracy, critical thinking, and responsibility.

Time management is your best friend—don’t fall into the trap of last-minute submissions. Try to keep up with your workload, break tasks into manageable parts, and stay ahead of deadlines when possible. The quality of your participation will reflect directly in your growth and confidence.

Also, never hesitate to ask questions or participate in peer discussions. Whether it's a classmate or instructor, everyone brings valuable insights that can help you look at problems from new angles. Learn to give and receive feedback gracefully—it’s a professional skill that will serve you for life.

Finally, believe in your ability to grow. You don’t need to know everything on Day 1. This course isn’t just about completing tasks—it’s about building habits that align with excellence, safety, and professionalism in any lab or workplace.

Stay committed, stay focused, and most importantly—enjoy the learning process. You’re building your future here. You've got this!

This course is quite different from many of the course we have taken at Centennial. It is a course that prepares you for life and working in the real world. My advice to a student that will take this course would be to always be present at class so you can benefit from the lifelong lessons. Stay organized by completing all assignments on time. Keep track of all reflections and feedback. It’s a course that is a building block course, so the week before will prepare you for the week ahead. Stay on top of the work. Always ask questions when unsure. Bring all the knowledge you have gained from this course with you as you work in the field because it does prepare you without you even know your being prepared. And lastly, have fun. The course is not hard, but it will challenge your organizational and consistency skills.

One piece of advice I’d give is to stay organized and be intentional with your time. Since the course is synchronous but online and attendance can vary, it’s easy to rely too much on flexibility and fall behind on weekly assignments. Try to treat the class like a regular in-person course by blocking out time each week to attend or catch up, and start assignments early instead of leaving them last minute. Staying engaged, even in an online setting, and keeping a consistent routine will make the course much more manageable and help you get the most out of it.

Professional Practice is less about difficult concepts and more about consistency, communication, and paying attention to details like formatting, deadlines, and participation. Do not leave assignments for the last minute because simple work can become stressful very quickly when multiple deadlines pile up. Stay organized, check instructions twice, and remember that being professional is often about discipline more than intelligence.

There will be moments where you feel confused or behind, but that’s part of the process. Instead of stressing too much, focus on understanding little by little and keep moving forward. Try to actually learn from the work, not just finish it. By the end, you’ll see how much you’ve improved without even noticing it.

Put genuine effort into reflections and assignments because they help you understand your strengths, weaknesses, and professional habits. You might feel like some tasks are simple or repetitive, but they build skills like communication, time management, and critical thinking. Start early, stay organized, and most importantly, be honest in your work this course gives back what you put into it.

Enjoy life alongside your studies. Take breaks, laugh with friends, go outside, and give yourself time to recharge. A tired mind cannot think creatively, and biotechnology often requires creative problem-solving. Stay curious not only in class but in everyday life—nature, food, and even health all connect back to what you are learning. When you balance discipline with enjoyment, studying becomes less of a burden and more of a journey.

Success in a demanding program isn't about grand gestures; it’s about the quiet discipline of staying current. The secret to avoiding the burnout of a "crunch week" is to treat your prep work like a professional commitment rather than a suggestion. Whether it’s staying on top of lab reports before the data gets cold or consistently reviewing the latest modules, incremental progress is what prevents a mountain of work from becoming an avalanche. Stay ahead of the clock, and you’ll find that you actually have the mental space to enjoy the material instead of just surviving it.

My advice is to take this course seriously from the beginning and stay consistent, even when it feels easy. I learned that small assignments and reflections actually help you understand yourself better and improve your learning. Try not to rush through tasks, take your time to think and be honest in your responses. Also, stay organized and manage your time well, because things can pile up quickly. Most importantly, be open to learning, not just for the grade, but for your own growth.

My advice to students starting this course is to stay organized, manage your time well, and don’t leave assignments until the last minute. Engage fully in the activities and discussions, because they help build real professional skills beyond the classroom. Take feedback as an opportunity to grow, and use this course to strengthen your confidence in networking, communication, and career planning. Most importantly, be open to learning about yourself as a future professional — the skills you develop here can support you far beyond this course.

The advice I would give would be to be organized and dedicate at least two hours a week (apart from the class) to make sure you read and understand everything in the module and you can complete all the participation activities in time. This course includes quite introspective activities that will have you reflect about your strengths and weaknesses, as well as your view on different things. It also includes activities that will help you practice real life skills that are often overlooked but can help you be a better worker. So, at the end, each completed activity will actually have a positive impact on your life, which is why I recommend not relegating them to the side. The other things would be to follow instructions carefully, each assignment has a specific rubric so you have to make sure to include everything exactly as it is asked in order to get the best grade possible.

One piece of advice I would give to upcoming students is to stay organized and manage your time wisely from the beginning. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek help when you don’t understand something, as it will only make your learning stronger. Try to gain as much hands-on experience as possible, because practical knowledge is just as important as theory. It’s also important to build good relationships with your classmates and instructors, as they can support you throughout your journey. Most importantly, stay consistent and believe in your ability to succeed, even when things feel challenging.

My advice to students starting this Professional Practice course is to stay organized from the beginning and take every activity seriously, even the small ones. At first, some tasks may seem simple or repetitive, but they are designed to build real workplace skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes because that is part of the learning process, especially in activities like SOPs, RCA, and leadership tasks. Try to relate every assignment to real-life work situations, especially in labs or professional environments, as this will help you understand their importance. Most importantly, stay consistent and give your best effort every week, because these skills will genuinely help you in your future career.

Best of luck to you.
