Egypt during the time was under control by the Fatimids and Islamic faction. Whilst defending Egypt Shirkuh died and Saladin fell into control over the army, and decided that he wanted the middle east to be rid of Englishmen, so that's exactly what he did. During 1186 Saladin turned his eyes to Jerusalem who was controlled by the Christians.
