Some changes in cognition are normal with age, such as slower reaction times and reduced problem-solving abilities, this is because certain parts of the brain shrink, including those important to learning and other complex mental activities. The speed that information is stored, and retrieved also slows as we age.

The basic needs of an older person consists of eight things. one of them is Family support.

As people grow older, they might or will start to rely on their families for support. this would mean that they would help with daily tasks like cleaning their house, going shopping or even cooking. if they have a big family then the family would be able to take things in turns to help each other out. these simple acts can make a big difference for the older person.

It is common that older people may struggle with maintaining personal hygiene, especially as their mobility has decreased they may struggle to make it to the toilet in time or they may not be in a fit state to clean their house.
This could lead to a build up of unhygienic products lying around their home. Leftover food (if they are not able to get up at that time to put the food way or simply just forget about it) could bring about insects and small animals such as mice which would worsen if not cause infections.
This all means that some older people may need to have carers or be in a nursing home to maintain well personal hygiene.
