Gottmman's study talks about how healthy communication in a relationship is crucial to prevent further marital issues in the future and the 4 horsemen of miscommunication should be avoided at all times or for the most of the time during an argument. Emotion can get in the way of a clear mind in the beginning, but later healthy communication is important. Furthermore, Lavner's study focuses on how even when marital satisfaction is achieved in the beginning, communicational satisfaction is important to help a marital relationship last and vice versa. This shows the importance of developing an attraction towards a person and at the same time healthy communication.

Although the study claims that the patterns of hostility and aggression will lead to divorce, they are not correct 100% of the time. Showing that the extraneous and unknown factors play a big role, and since relationships are very complex, there is a lot going on between both people that cannot be observed.
