As a group we agree that most schools don't seem to have any sort of plan, and gave inconsistent responses as to why the assessments (school wide tests) are given. As for individual teachers, teachers give feed back and seem to have a purpose for giving assessment. Most of individual teacher's assessments seem to be summative however.

Now that we know what assessment is, we recognize and reflect on our own professors assessment strategies. In our college music courses, we have seen formative assessments being used in sequence, some being graded and some not being graded, and a summative assessment used at the end of course instruction. Looking back at high school, we couldn't interpret the data from our standardized tests. It was not applicable to us, and not given to us immediately. The small amount of schools we have seen have not had an assessment or data use plan. Music classrooms are especially different, and we have not seen a solid or effective assessment plan anywhere.

Looking back it is clear that a lot of our teachers were using formative assessment to determine where students were at in their learning. As a school plan, we don't believe our schools had much of a plan. Only certain teachers seemed to have their own idea of assessment and what they were to do with it.

We haven't seen data being used in schools very often. We have seen data used more frequently recently than we did when we first started in the program. We have found data collection to lack cohesiveness across schools or departments with consistency only existing in individual classrooms.
