Oxford EAP has twelve units and each of them contains a preview page that shows the learning objectives for that unit and a short discussion task to get the learner to think about the unit theme. Besides, the units are divided into four main modules, which are Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, and also a plus a one-page Vocabulary module. Finally, there is a small section on certain pages that encourage the learner to study independently. Although each unit contains a specific activity titled “Critical thinking”, most of the activities in the book are focused on the development of the learner’s critical thinking, encouraging them to generate, organize, analyze and evaluate their ideas.

In the reading module, the learner will find extracts from authentic academic textbooks and short tasks to think about topics or predict the content of the text. Another task from this module will help the learner to identify features of a text, such as the central ideas or specific language, even if she-he doesn't understand every word. Like the other modules, it ends with a task in which the learner has to respond critically about what has been read.
