Being the goddess of the intellectual side of war she aids many heroes such as Odysseus, Perseus, and Heracles by giving them advice and tools, specifically designed to do their task.

Athena's birth was not natural, she was without a mother and was born by Zeus. This happened when Zeus ate Metis when she was pregnant; he did this because he worried that their next child will be more powerful and overthrow him. Athena was the baby inside Metis and she emerged out of the head of Zeus, fully grown and armed for war. When Athena was born she quickly became Zeus' favorite child. would then go on and help many Greek heroes such as Odysseus, this is shown when Athena says,"Let them all die so, all who do such things. but my heart breaks for Odysseus,That seasoned veteran cursed by fate so long—Far from his loved ones still, he suffers torments" This also shows that though she might be Zeus' favorite child, she is not a afraid to manipulate him to get her way.
