         <title>Flats Dedicated For the Elderly</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Studio Apartments : </strong><br>The HDB (Housing &amp; Development Board) first introduced studio apartments in 1998 to meet the demands of the increasing population of the elderly,to provide another option for those aged 55 years and above.<br><br>They include features such as grab bars to support the elderly and security measures like alert alarm systems.<br><br><br><strong>2-room Flats (2-room Flexi Scheme) :</strong><br>The 2-room Flexi Scheme was also a new housing option,launched in 2015,which merged and replaced the existing 2-room flat scheme and Studio Apartment scheme.Also catered to elderlies aged 55 and above,they can take up a lease of 15 - 45 years,with an addition of 5 years,so long as it covers them and their spouse up to the age of at least 95 years.First and second-timer families,as well as first-timer singles,can buy new 2-room flats on a 99-year lease.<br><br>At least 40% of such 2-room flats are set aside for the elderly (subject to a minimum of 100 flats).Elderlies can also use their excess CPF savings in their OA (Ordinary Account) and RA (Retirement Account) to purchase the 2-room Flexi flat.<br><br><br><br><strong>Credits :</strong><br><a href="https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/about-us/our-role/public-housing--a-singapore-icon">https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/about-us/our-role/public-housing--a-singapore-icon</a><br><br><a href="https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/residential/buying-a-flat/new/2room-flexi-flats">https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/residential/buying-a-flat/new/2room-flexi-flats</a><strong><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>CPF (Central Provident Fund) Funds (Set aside to assist the elderly in buying flats)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Basic Retirement Sum : </strong><br><br>Elderlies (aged 55 years and above) who have set aside the Basic Retirement Sum can use their excess CPF savings in their OAs and RAs to buy flats by the HDB.<br><br></div><ul><li><strong><em>OA (Ordinary Account)</em></strong></li></ul><div>The OA for elderlies is mainly to meet their retirement and housing needs.They can use their OA to pay for their housing needs,currently up to 3.5% p.a.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Interviewee Details : </strong><br>Name : Mrs Lam Ong Lun<br>Age : 67<br>Nationality : Singaporean<br><br><strong>Interview video :</strong> (Did not want to be recorded)<br><br><strong>Questions &amp; Answers :</strong> <br><br><strong>Q 1 :</strong> On a scale of 1 - 10,how affordable would you rate the housing in Singapore,and why?<br><br><strong>A :</strong> About 6,2-room and 3-room flats and studio apartments are not too bad,but the rest are quite expensive.There is CPF to help us but we cannot fully depend on it<br><br><strong>Q 2 :</strong> What is your opinion of CPF?<br><br><strong>A :</strong> Okay-okay,can pay for nearly anything,medicine,flats. Like a bank,put in money and the bank pays you interest.<br><br><strong>Q 3 :</strong> Do you think this is enough for when you want to buy for example,houses?<br><br><strong>A :</strong> Just depends on how much is inside CPF,enough for at least 2-room,but should subsidise a bit more.<br><br><strong>Q 4 :</strong> How much of a difference do you think it would make if there were no subsidies for housing?<br><br><strong>A :</strong> Confirm got a lot of people will have problems finding houses,most would rent a room from tenants.Quite big of a difference.<br><br><strong>Q 5 :</strong> What do you think can be changed to improve on the current housing provision in Singapore?<br><br><strong>A :</strong> Can subsidise a bit more for everyone,not just for us,other people also need houses,but for now okay.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Ilhan :</strong> Through this project,we learnt on what difficulties the elderly face in housing and how they overcome them.I feel this project has made me more aware about the issues the elderly are facing and the steps the government are taking to help them.<br><br><strong>Leng Han :</strong> From this project,I learnt the difficulties faced by the elderly people.But luckily they have many ways of relieving their financial problems as well as their housing problems,but despite this we should all play a part together and ensure the well-being of the elderly in Singapore.<br><br><strong>Danny :</strong> I learnt about the importance of taking care of the elderly as well as the many problems they face.I think we,as the younger generation,should do what we can to aid the elderly whenever possible.<br><br><strong>Xavier :</strong> Lessons that I have learnt from this project are that the elderly in Singapore do not need to worry too much about financial issues,with the aid of CPF,being able to pay for their medical bills and housing.Many schemes are also in place to aid everyone.<br><br><strong>Yu Kit :</strong> I learnt more about the housing problems for the elderly in Singapore.But I think that the elderly are very appreciative of whatever help they get and do not complain much about it.</div>]]></description>
