Langston Hughes implies that dreams are alive and well by using the phrase “if dreams die” opposed to “When dreams die”. This and other languages prove that it's not set in stone that dreams won't happen for everybody. Hughes also brings up his personal dreams throughout his works to humanize himself and become more relatable. Hughes is one of those authors that speaks for underprivileged people so he also takes that into account when he writes his poems and stories. Dreams can be had by anybody but to actually be able to achieve them is a different scenario. He says African Americans should not be excluded from the ability to live their dream but how America is structured in his time they would have to face more obstacles in order to become equal to the white man. Throughout his work he points out African American struggle and they all increase the difficulty level to live thie dreams.
