Often when listening to rap its typically pretty explicit . Normally I find it off putting since it's very 'aggressive'. However one of the reasons I enjoy Park's music so much is because his smooth voice makes vulgar lyrics seem clean; it's easy to forget that he's singing explicit material. His ability to make 'ugly' things seem 'beautiful' is something I really admire, a skill I don't think many people have and one I wish to gain myself.

He has a fun, smooth, upbeat twist to typical R&B rap, which is the kind of tone I want to be able to replicate one day. I noticed that Park also never 'rushes' into the music, he starts off with a catchy and easy beat and then builds. It's one of the aspects I really enjoy about his music. I also really enjoy what I believe is the use of synthesizers in his song 'Yatch' at the start.

I've always been impressed how Park targets audiences all over the world. For almost every Korean hit, he has an English version. He caters to a large group of individuals by adding that little bit of extra work which I find very inspirational.

Although I had no idea who he was at the time, as I look back through the songs and soundtracks I adored when I was younger, I find his name popping up everywhere.

 His work on 'Corpse Bride' (2006)  has been one of my favorite pieces to listen to ever since I was young; It has a hauntingly beautiful element to it. Elfman's unconventional timing in the New Orleans style jazz score 'Remains of the Day' Is one of my favourite pieces; the chaotic and quirky instruments are so upbeat and compelling you forget they're singing about the characters murder. His other scores in the film such as 'The Piano Duet' and 'Tears to Shed' offer that dark romantic tone that really influences my perception of music.

His work on the 'Fable' (2004) video game soundtrack has also been a big inspiration of mine; being immersed in a game with his beautiful quirky music is the best feeling. He and Russell Shaw (another person I admire)  flawlessly paint the tone from 'care-free adventuring' to 'ominous and dark'. The orchestral scores are so powerful and gripping, its hard to forget them. His film scores are so enthralling; his work on 'King Arthur: Legend of the sword' (2017) and 'The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance' (2019) are my two personal favourites. The King Arthur sound track is so unconventional and raw, its impossible not to enjoy.

It's everything you wouldn't expect in a film set in the era it is. It's extremely visceral and some of my favourite parts in the soundtrack are the sharp exhales, inhales and screaming that were incorporated, which I believe enhances the musicality of the track.  There is a certain physicality to the music that is truly unforgettable. He easily uses the plots world to add to the 'unpolished' track.

'King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword' track truly changed my perspective on film scores. Pemberton takes all these classical orchestral pieces, such as the violin etc. and transforms them into something else. The incorporation of the 'war horn' and the unexpected ensemble build up, is genius in my eyes. I easily become enraptured in the suspense he creates seemingly effortlessly.

Growing up on the original 'Dark Crystal' (1982) film I was already a fan of the original soundtrack. Pemberton doesn't disappoint paying tribute to the previous film but also adding a more modern twist to the scores.  It captures a serene, gentle tone. In an interview (Chitwood, 2020) Pemberton said: ' I love the way Tarantino uses music. (..) the thing about Tarantino is he’s brilliant at understanding the power of music and the power to drive narrative and create really memorable bits of cinema to really memorable soundtracks. And there’s always a boldness and a kind of energy, also a sort of cheekiness to a lot of his stuff, and it’s always been a big influence on me.'. He went onto say that Tarantino is an expert on surprises and you never truly know whats going to happen. Who was heavy on synthesizers and piano. 

You can hear Jarres influence in some of Pembertons film scores as its very ambient and unorthodox. An example of this could be Jarres'  'Oxygene, Pt. 4 (1989 Version)' which I feel Pemberton took inspiration from in regards to his 'Rian + Mira Dreamfast' track in 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' (2019). The rich undertones and quirky nature are very similiar.

Pemberton has said he draws '...on a richly diverse set of influences, from English folk to hip-hop; nordic metal to musique concrete...' (Daniel Pemberton - Cool Music, 2015) and Jarre is definetly one of these influences.

Who greatly influenced Pemberton, in a similar fashion to Jean-Michel Jarre. Pemberton always enjoyed the ambient and progressive electronic of the musician. Pemberton was inspired by this type of tone (Pemberton, 2010) and saved up enough money when he was younger to buy his own keyboard.

Park started listening to him when he was in sixth grade. Park stated that he has always looked up to Usher both vocally and in dance. Jay Park often says he tries to 'mimic' his presence while bringing his own flair. 

You can hear an see Ushers influence is Park's music and especially in his performances. Park has done a cover performance for Ushers song 'You Got It Bad' (muziqphreak, 2011) and has mentioned how much he enjoys his music on twitter multiple times. 

Park also said ' I thought Usher was an idol, and I wanted to replicate everything about him. I want to make my body like Usher, and I want to wear the same clothes.' He views Jackson as his role-model and just like Usher tries to replicate a similar tone and dance in his own music. 

Park never went into specifics when talking about Jackson, only ever praising his world renown skill, but his influence is pretty apparent in some of Park's stage performances. 

There was even a point in time where he paid 'tribute' to Jackson by mimicking some of his memorable moves, as seen in a Bling video (미디어블링, 2018). Although not the best life role model, there is no denying Brown's success in the R&B rap community. In an interview Park stated 'I want to be a singer who can be good at both singing and rapping like Chris Brown.' (MoneyToday, 2014).

Brown's influence is of a very similar nature to some of the other inspirations however he cited Brown as someone who specifically 
influences his music videos, which is apparent when you compare some of Parks' work to Browns'. He has praised Brown on multiple occasions even promoting his newest album at the time (jpnetsubs2, 2014).

The use of the brassy orchestra mixed with the organs and the theremin were, to my ears, extremely powerful, but at the same time thoughtful, inspiring and evocative. Elfman holds the Russian composer in such a high regard going as far to say that he would never attempt to compare himself to the pianist. ‘(...) in fact, to start writing, I had to stop listening to him, because there’s a certain point where he’s so fucking amazing to me — like a god — that if I listen too much, I get paralyzed.’ (Danny Elfman Is Always Eying the Next Thing, 2018).

Elfman had a large respect for the pianist and commented that he used Shostakovich (as well as similar artists) as a template for his own music.
