The musical genre that I definitely listen to the least would have to be country music. But, just cause I don't listen to it very often doesn't mean that it doesn't have a social/cultural impact on the world today. I think when we think of country music, there's certainly a very clear stereotype that comes along with it, and as with most stereotypes it's not very kind. We think of beer, hunting, mud, big trucks, tobacco, and even racism. The reason that country music has an impact is because it shows that aspects of our stereotypes for country are just a part of who they are, while making it apparent that the negative stereotypes really aren't a part of their culture. "Boys Round Here" by Blake Shelton certainly shows that yes country people do many stereotypical things, but it's simply who they are. Shelton also doesn't play into any of the negative stereotypes because they just aren't a part of the culture. While "Round Here" by Florida Georgia Line shows that a country Saturday night is just the same as anybody else's Saturday night. It's the guys just looking to have fun and meet chicks, we can all relate to wanting to have fun and get with someone that you're attracted to. By showing how country culture really is and by showcasing a night that's relatable, these two songs help to show that country music speaks to everyone universally and not just to "country folk". I definitely feel like I have a greater appreciation for country music, in that I see now that I can relate to it in more ways than I previously thought. I also definitely enjoy the energy that goes along with country music for sure.
