in the first year of our life we discover life through our senses as our main pleasures come from sucking our mothers breast or bottle. The conflict that occurs now is the weening from our primary care giver. for example baby (A) is weened off the breast with no trauma but baby (B) is off the breast to early at 4 months, while baby (C) is left to cry when hungry. later in adult hood baby (A) becomes a healthy independent adult. However baby (B) suffers from trauma & and develops an oral fixation such as chewing gum, smoking, drinking anything that can be placed in the mouth. whereas baby (C) spends her entire life looing for the oral stimulation denied as an infant. and therefore develops a manipulative & addictive personality.

libido turns to genital's as we discover the differences between female and male gender. The boys conflict in this phase occurs as a rivalry with there farther also called the (abides complex) & a desire to posses there mother & fantasies about getting rid of there farther. But they know there farther is stronger & fear being punished for there desire. Freud called this castration anxiety. where as child (C) a female develops 'penis envy' she believes a penis is key to power & domination.
child (A)'s farther was very present during this phase and learns to respect both genders. child (B)s farther was not around at this phase so he develops a mother fixation & is confused about his sexuality & is aggressive towards women & constantly wants to compete against other men. Child (C) has penis envy for the rest of her life and causing an inferiority complex towards all men.
