Balinese Galungan Festival


Description:
The Balinese Galungan Festival is a 10-day celebration that occurs twice a year in Bali, Indonesia. It marks the victory of dharma (good) over adharma (evil) and is a time for honoring ancestral spirits. Families prepare offerings, decorate their homes with Penjor, and visit temples to pray and give thanks. The streets come alive with traditional dances and ceremonies.


Fun Fact:
During Galungan, Balinese Hindus believe their ancestors' spirits return to Earth and visit their family shrines. The final day, Kuningan, is when these spirits return to the afterlife.

A festival in which merchants sell radishes that have been carved to make scenes. The radish carvings are sold as Christmas centerpieces. and the person that makes the best radish design wins a prize.

Some of the stuff they eat on La Noche de Rabanos includes bunuelos. A fried pastery coated with syrup. Also esquites grilled Mexican street corn mixed with a spicy mixture.

A fun fact is that they also have fireworks, parades, and craft booths.

Gran' Market is held in all major towns and cities across Jamaica, on Christmas Eve, and continues into the early hours of Christmas Day. As the name suggests it is a “grand” affair which brings buyers and sellers together for last-minute shopping.
