This book is great for age levels 3-5 for preschool/kindergarten aged children. It is about Jabari, who is at his neighborhood pool and finally conquers his fear of jumping off of the high diving board! I included this book because I love the message of "I am brave and I can face my fears, even if it takes me all day!"

This book is great for children ages 4-6. It is about a child named Max who goes to his bedroom one night when it turns into a dense forest and he meets friendly monsters who never want him to leave! He has the best time with these monsters and wants to become one of them. I chose it because it shows children have the best imagination and even though monsters seem scary, they are really fun and playful! This book won the "Randolph Caldecott Medal" in 1964. "School Library Journal" voted this book the number one picture book as well!

This book is aimed for readers ages 4-8. It is about a young girl named Sulwe who falls in love with her skin color and learns that beauty comes in all colors but stems from the inside. This book has AMAZING pictures and brings the story to life through illustration. Another reason I picked this book is because it is based on the author, Lupita Nyong'o's life and her experience dealing with her skin color growing up. It tackles social justice issues like privilege, colorism, and self esteem.

This book is aimed for children ages 5-8. It is about a child named Isabella who just moved from Colombia to her new English speaking school in the United States. She moved half way through the year and is super excited to make new friends! She is also sad about leaving her father behind, so we get to see her new beginnings in school and feel hopeful for her. I chose this book because it shows that even when this is such a hard beginning for her, she carries positivity with her and makes a new friend! One social justice issue this faces is language differences and multicultural issues.
