What is Pollination?

Pollination occurs when worker bees travel flower to flower gathering nectar (the worker bee's food). During the food spree tiny grains of pollen attaches to the worker bee's legs and when traveling across multiple flowers the pollen spreads enabling the flowers (and plants) to reproduce and grow. Other creatures can pollinate like the humming birds but bee's come in such numbers and are a lot more well known for pollination.

Honey is made by a long yet simple process. First the worker bee travels to flowers sucking up the nectar produced by the flowers as food. Then the food reaches the honey stomach and soon inversion occurs where the sugar from the nectar breaks down into fructose and glucose. When the bee reaches the hive the bee regurgitates the nectar to himself or other bees. Soon after she feels the honey is good she puts it into a cell and puts a wax cap on

The industry is booming with highly developed beekeeping farms in a lot of countries. The U.S has hives producing about 100,000 tons of honey every year which is lover than 1970's with 117,000 tons of honey. How? From major roads, intersections, buildings taking away bee farmers space.

What is the "Beekeeping process"?

The beekeeping process is the process of beekeeping. It involves lots of hard work but it is worth it in the end. First the beekeeper has to put on his beekeeping suit which consists of a veil, white clothing, and a pair of gloves protecting their hands (Some expert beekeepers usually go without gloves). Next if they want to do really anything considering the hive and colony the beekeeper will have to use slow and deliberate movements. They do this so the bees don't get angered or want to sting as much. Some farmers live near the beekeepers bees so the bees pollinate the crops. Bakers buy this honey for crackers, cookies and more goods.

How do they connect?

The book ties to the beekeeping industry by a lot. Without bees honey would not be made making it valuable which the book shows us as one of the ways into the wall and as the reward for catching beast on pg 9. Our next connection is pollination with the plants reproducing with the bees but without the bees pollination would be almost non existent as shown on page 8 line 2, "A scorching sun beats down from the tortoise sky, gleaming off the distant buildings in downtown Denver. Yet no leaves grow on the skeletal trees, no flowers bloom in pots on front porches, no grass grows in dead front yards. Even the smokey mountains looming on the western horizon look brown and brittle." Which means 1. No one took care of the plants and 2. Nothing took care of the plants or used pollen to reproduce the plants, another example of this is on page 89 with Fiona and Bowen/Dreycan painting the crops with pollen for the plant to grow. The last connection is where the beekeeping industry helps supply food to nearby but on page 130 and 131 they have a disk for the Fecs and the canned spam and peaches in light syrup which is said to be as much worth as honey which means it is valued a lot.
