1916 was a hard time for children as well. Most children did not know what was happening or why. The children who did know what was happening helped in factories and stole food and other essentials during 1916. Other jobs children were involved in were: working in soup kitchens, helping their mothers with the injured and delivering arms and ammunition in disguise to the soldiers. In one of the horrific deaths of a child was a 15- year old was shot in the face by a sniper. The sniper was based in Jacobs biscuit factory. Most children were shot during crossfire accidentally.

We researched one victim who was killed. Moses Doyle was killed on the 24th of April 1916. He was the youngest of 3 children. He is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery. It was recorded he was 14 when killed but further research should he hadn't reached 12.

A two year old boy was killed in his pram and a two year old girl was killed by a stray bullet. The boy was called Séan Foster and the girl was called Christina Caffery. Séan got shot under his left ear and Christina was killed after a stray bullet slipped off her mothers hand and into her back.

These stories were horrific.

Before 1916 Dublin was more calm because there were less to no cars and no buses. Every man wore a suit jacket with a top hat or a peaky cap. There were still
trams there. There were always guards outside the GPO. Also there was a Union Jack flying over the GPO. So in 1915 Dublin was a very different place.

Here is the link to a video showing Dublin in 1915:

https://youtu.be/xc528OW7p2M
This is a picture of the GPO after it got burned down.
