Jack presents himself as a strong boy, witty at times, courageous and suited for leadership. He originally wanted to be the leader, and is the leader of the choir. He can be rather violent and quick-tempered and seems almost obsessed with killing the pigs, not to mention how stubborn he can be when it comes to the suggestions of others.

Piggy is a boy who was teased by all of the other boys, even when he tried to be a leader and help out. Piggy is physically abused by the boys, and there is nobody to stand up for him, so he suffered. "This from Piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence. The bolting look came into his blue eyes. He took a step, and able to last to hit someone, stuck his fit into Piggy's stomach. Piggy sat down with a grunt. Jack stood over him. His voice was vicious with humiliation ( Golding 71).

Percival is a very small and young child who is referred as a littlun. Percival is also a weak child who can't handle many things, but can't help it since he is so young. Maurice is one of the hunters in the hunt group lead by Jack. He pretends to be the pig, while the other boys pretend to kill him. When they actually killed the pig, Jack puts blood on his face. In other words, Maurice represents the bestial and ferocious ways of the boys. Jack is a bull headed, short tempered, and rude boy. He acts like he knows what is best for everyone, and has been shown to relieve his violent out bursts on Piggy, "...Jack smacked Piggy's head. Piggy's glasses flew off and tinkled on the rocks" (Golding 71). Jack acts like a child that always wants more, for that he creates chaos to the people around him.

The littluns are the youngest and smallest of the group.

They are easily scared, and portray the still young and

scared minds of all the boys, even the biguns. "'They talk

and scream. The littluns. Even some of the others-'"

(Steinbeck 52). The scared and primitive minds of the

littluns are spreading onto the others.

Johnny is a 6 year old boy, who has fair hair and is one of the smallest children. He is said to only be obedient when he is interested in what he is supposed to be doing. He also seems to look up to the biguns, as seen when he throws sand at Percival after Maurice gets sand in Percival's eye. "Johnny watched him with china-blue eyes;then he began to fling sand in a shower"(Golding 61) The mention of his china-blue eyes shows that Johnny is innocent.

Simon seems to be a very timid character. He often goes to his solitary shelter in the jungle. He also seems to be cautious and mellow which gets him shamed by the other characters. Simon is a hard good worker. He is a little mysterious in the story never really being explained. He usually is one to keep the peace, and he seems very calm and relaxed. " Then he turned his back on this and walked to the forest with and air of purpose. He was a small, skinny boy, his chin pointed, and his eyes so bright they had deceived Ralph into thinking him delightfully gay and wicked"(Golding 55).

Jack is extremely one-minded and by this I mean that once he has put his mind to something it is almost impossible to get through to him until he has accomplished his task. An example of him being one-minded is when he decides that he needs to kill a pig, and as soon as he set his mind to it, it was all that he thought about. Ralph and Jack are having a conversation, "'All you can talk about is pig, pig, pig!'...'If I could only get a pig'" (Steinbeck, 54-55). In this conversation, Ralph notices Jack's obsession over killing a pig and yells at him for it, but Jack does not even care because he is only thinking about how to kill a pig. - Vincent Vaishville
