First aiders have many roles and responsibilities. They are in control of what happens next with the individual and who requires assistance. For example, an individual may of cut their finger open. As a first aider, you must follow the correct procedures which would be to apply pressure to the wound and apply dressing. For something more serious such as if an individual was found unconscious on the floor, the first aider should call or have someone call 999 for help. They should check for breathing. And then start chest compressions. After 30 compressions, if competent to do so, they should move onto rescue breath. This should be continued in the ratio 30:2. This should continue until paramedics arrive. A defibrillator should be brought to the patient.
