The history of Athena is that she is the daughter of Zeus and was made without a mother. Another story was when Zeus swallowed the goddess of counsel who was pregnant so Athena came from Zeus. The Greek economy "was largely military, so that Athena... became a goddess of war," (Britannica) which explains why she was chosen to be a goddess of war. Athena being a goddess of war also "became the goddess of crafts and skilled peacetime pursuits in general," (Britannica) which shows that she was also a goddess of crafts and not only just war.

How Athena Functions In the Odyssey

Athena functions in the Odyssey by helping Odysseus. She would "manifest this important role through her divine intervention in different episodes of the Odyssey" (Academus Education) which would help Odysseus in his journey. Athena mainly serves Odysseus as "his patron goddess and she will always intervene in time to assist him when he is in danger." (Avademus Education) This would constantly happen many times, making her role crucial since Odysseus would be long gone if she didn't intervene a lot. Later she would also he a household goddess of Odysseus's family and she has "a responsibility to help his son," (Avademus Education) so that Odysseus's son can carry on the name.

Athena, the daughter of Zeus, is a goddess of war known for her intelligence by developing strategic strategies and aiding battlefield heroes. Enemies often fear her defensive strategy and fierce close combat, resulting in victories and glory for those she aids. This led many to worship her spreading her name far and wide, and her name comes from the city she is most associated with, Athens.
