I never had you, but I was in a Dual Language class at Birchwood back in the late 90s. I remember thinking how cool it was that there was a male teacher (since all of mine up until that point had been female) and always made it a point to try to play kickball when you joined the kids at recess. I have no doubt that these early memories had an impact on my desire and decision to become a teacher.

Wishing you many great adventures in your retirement! Your positive influence & presence will be sorely missed at Birchwood. It was a lot of fun watching your interactions with students & seeing how excited they were to be selected for one of the four Houses of Hogwarts! On any given day, you could walk past your classroom and hear early morning rock/country music or hear an animated read aloud during the day. The bubble gum contests and group projects were always a hit too! You've been such a positive role model & have influenced so many students and adults alike. Now, I hope you will enjoy some time to unwind and create more memories with your family. Keep us updated and best of luck!

We cannot believe our favorite teacher is retiring.  It is because of you that we know every states capital, every word to the Notre Dame theme song, One cup of coffee and many many other great memories that we will cherish forever! We have a special bond of being hired together.  We have out lasted a lot of our friends from the original “Brat Pack”.  I feel like we grew up together.  Watching each other grow and learn as teachers.  Getting married and having children.  Watching our children grow and sharing concerns and love for them.  

I was afraid you would never talk to me again when Tiernan and I ripped your bulletin board paper down.  But that would not be you.  If you were upset, we always knew by how hard you snapped your rubber band.  You are an amazing teacher.  I have to say your fellow fifth grade teachers were a bit envious of you when everyone wanted Mr. Ryan for fifth grade.  You have so much of yourself to your students and parents.  

Now it is time for Mr. Ryan to concentrate on himself.  There is nothing not to love with retirement.  You get to sit home, do what you want and still get paid.  How fun is that!  

We will see each other again.  Looking forward to hearing about marriages and grandchildren some day.  And of course your adventures that await you!

I can't believe the school year is coming to an end. I have so many memories from your class I will remember deeply, and vividly. I will make sure of that. It's so sad this school year felt so short; I wish it felt more longer. One of the best grades I've ever been in, feels short. It honestly hurts deep inside. But, as always, all good things must come to an end, and this great thing has came to an end. I knew exactly when I heard that I was with one of the best teachers in the school if not the best, I knew I was lucky. I have met many great people in this class. What can I say that can possibly sum up the last 21 years as your colleague? It's like having to say goodbye to a national landmark! Or a really really tall, wisdom-filled, shady tree :) Thank you for being an incredible example of everything a teacher should be. Your reply was this is where you sit so you can talk to everyone. Well that was it, the ice was broken, and I found myself a new friend.
