The Mood is an interesting mix of dark humor along with paranoia. With the narrator constanly providing explanations for increasingly bizarre concepts that are supposedly the "norm" in the greater universe. Our main character is thrust into a world where he knows absolutely nothing about anything and as a result is left to play catch up, which leaves him either confused, paraniod, frantic, or all three at once.

Most of the characters adventures are actually set in space itself. Our main character starts off on earth, somehow winds up on a spaceship only to board another spaceship, before finally landing on a seemingly dead planet for the final act.

Both Spaceships are described as futuristic, yet somewhat whimsical, almost childlike in design. While the dead planet creates an atmosphere of mystery and intensity that makes the reader want to more about the surronding area.

Arthur Dent is our main character for this book, however he does not play the dashing hero or even the selfless idiot of our main cast. Instead he mostly stays as a confused and frightened human who is just going along with the group becuase they are quite literally the only beings that he knows.

He also is shown to possess quite a one track mind, especially when in danger, however he still remains a kind hearted human who is really just trying his best.

The Plot of the book follows the life of a man named Arthur Dent, a regular man who lives in England. However coincidentally on the same day that his house is scheduled to be demolished, so is the planet earth itself. So his neighbor, Ford Perfect, turns out to be an actual alien helps him hitch a ride one one of the demolition ships and they escape the destruction of the planet. After they are discovered they are ejected and picked up by a new ship who just so happens to be flown by Ford's cousin Zaphod. They then go on a small journey to a previously lost planet where the space police find them and they narrowly escape, Which ends the book. This is one of the wackiest, and most confusing science fiction story that I have ever read and I enjoyed itlike no other.

This book might just be my new favorite Science-Fiction title of all time. I just simply fell in love with its specific dialect and phrases that reminded me so much of another one of my all-time favorite books: The Last Book in the Universe. It was just the right amount of perfectly logical sense and that touch of whimsicalness(Yes I know that I have used this word three times already, but it just describes this book perfectly) that tied it all together. Would recommend, 10/10, Top 10 favorite of all time easily, maybe top 5.
