Julia was kidnapped in the woods by Donald Jessup. She went missing for 48 hours. For her to say that there is nothing in the woods anymore must be hard for her. She was kidnapped, her memories are starting to come back she has to remember what happened in these woods. Her best friend left her there in the woods without looking back.A girl just like her was found in the same woods dead just a few days ago. So for Julia to imply that Donald Jesseup was the only thing in the woods she is overcoming her fear of the woods. She is trying to forget what happened in the past or find closure by rentering the woods for the first time since the incident.

Book Review

Gr 9 Up — The one time Julia runs fast enough to keep up with her best friend, Liv, during their training in the woods , she witnesses Liv get attacked by a strange man. Julia intervenes, putting herself in danger instead. Abducted by the man, Julia escapes two days later. She insists to Liv, her therapist, and her mother that she survived the attack relatively unscathed. After a body surfaces in the same woods almost a year later, Julia starts to experience post-traumatic stress disorder-related flashbacks and realizes that there's more to the story than the news coverage. She's not sure who to trust anymore but enlists the help of her mousy neighbor, a glamorous newscaster, and the dreamy son of the local police chief to unravel the connections. The plot is twisty and dramatic; the references to trauma and abuse are more titillating than profound, giving the serious subject matter a breathless tone. At times it seems like the author tries to address too many timely subjects instead of delving more deeply into one or two, and some of the characterizations seem forced, but the writing is clear and accessible. VERDICT An entertaining, if choppy mystery that will appeal to fans of Law & Order -type plots.—Kyle Lukoff, Corlears School, New York City --Kyle Lukoff (Reviewed December 1 , 2015) (School Library Journal, vol 61, issue 12, p128)

I agree with this book review when it says in the beginning "The One Time." Julia could have escaped this whole thing if she hadn't ran fast enough to keep up with Liv. But if she didn't run fast enough Liv might have been taken too, but when Julia saved her Liv just ran away. When Julia asks Liv what happened that night she makes excuses of why she left." I ran back down the trail. I had no cell- you had yours, remember?"(savage pg.62). Liv had no way of contacting the police and yes it was smart to stand back but Julia needed her help and Liv wasn't there for her when she needed her. When the book review says that Julia doesn't know who to trust anymore I totally agree. Throughout the book I didn't even know who to trust.

Since Julia didn't know who to trust throughout the book she relied on two people. Paula Papademetriou and Kellin Macdougell. She was determined to figure out the full story of that night on November 13, 2013.She barely remembered that night when it first happened but as time went by her memories came back in flashbacks. While these happened she would write down evidence of that night and what really might have happened. The notebook is symbolic because it was there from the beginning when she first started having flashbacks. When she left it in Kellen Macdougell's car it brought him to snoop into it and brought them closer as friends. The notebook tells the true story and brought people together throughout the book.

Julia starts to get flashbacks or daydreams throughout the day and sometimes she has them at night. The flashbacks she have remind her or give her more detail of the night that she was kidnapped by Donald Jessup. These flashbacks give her more answers about that night and have her want to investigate more on what actually happened and not what the news told us. The flashbacks carry on throughout the story and leave the reader wanting more.
