I think Banksy is trying to comment on the fragile state religion currently is in due to the unprecedented advances in science. The weak state of religion is symbolized by an injured Buddha, a well known religious icon; And the science element can be taken away from the young age of the image (modern idea) and the fact that human advancement in the area of science has caused a growth in the atheist population (opposing force). Which I believe is the only major issue that can be perceived as  destructive or better yet crippling to a religious order, due to its dependence on active followers. All and all a powerful exploration of the conflict as old as time.
