Its easier but still not ideal for autonomous relationships. this only covers the heteronormative ideas of marriage, queer marraiges tend to have more autonomy inherently.

It also depends on context because if there is a man to woman marriage, there is one set of expectations, but if there is a man to man or woman to woman marriage, there are other sets of expectations. Outisde of the relationship, the state can have authority over your marriage and can dictate if you can get married, if it is legal, etc.

I say autonomy because you constantly see men asking women “what’s your body count” or a descriptor that describes a child (that they want in their women). To me the physical aspect (being viewed as pure / clean) is more popular and I correlate that with autonomy. But I do still see authority in real-life marriages where the man gets the final say or the breadwinner gets the final say.
