This dream follows as a pattern of dreams that occur constantly. In the book it says that "The father dreams about creatures he'd never seen before and they didn't speak..." In the article it states "Reflective of this attitude, a body of research maintains that dreams are merely a means of discharging stress or tension from events of daily life." It placed a heavy emphasis on the fact that no one should be trust in the new world where they now resided. The father is on constant alert after this, as it feels to much like a premonition for his liking. It also doesn't help that the boy is so on edge as they had early approached the house. He daydreams about how when he went to sleep he had a possibility to dream something good just as he could have dreamed something bad. Whereas now, when he dreams he always has nightmares. This tells me that the father had something that his son never had. In the dream he had a penguin that he wound up and it would waddle and flap its flippers. And they were i that  house they used to live in and the penguin went around the corner but nobody had wound it up again. The boy was really scared. The boy seems to have this dream because he misses his home. The article states that " The unconscious mind serves as a mechanism in which sources of concealed beliefs, fears, and attitudes interfere with the external world and every life. Therefore, a deeper understanding of the self occurs through the practice of personal, conscious awareness as hidden hindrances are brought to light, examined and addressed through dream work."
