I observed his caring and thoughtfulness through they way he interacts with his family, specifically his sister and Grandmother. He shows how tough he is by continuing to keep his positivity in a difficult situation. There are a lot of people that would chose a different path if they were in his situation like the two guys that bully him. 

A few years ago back when I was in Rochester, NY, I coached the wrestling team. My best wrestler was a 265 pound freshman whose athletic ability was off the charts. Given his size he was also a football player and yes he started on the varsity team as a freshman. Needless to say he had as many friends as he could ever want or need. There was another student lets call him B. B is a student with pretty obvious disabilities, so naturally cruel high school kids picked on him. My wrestler could have talent he easy way out and joined in. Instead he not only stood up for B but befriended him. Still to this day they are best friends.

It made me smile reading about how they make pancakes for breakfast and keep Jerome's plate full. It made me think of all the times my parents would keep putting food on my plate, even when I was full. 

I also got the sense that they are very worried people.
