Boosted the American economy and infrastructure because of all of the growth. It also helped create the American identity of not stopping at any lengths to grow there country All of these conclude to the fact that the Gold rush was one of the largest events during that time period.

The Mistreatment of Native Americans contradicted the American Identity of the 1800s. The forced acculturation under Thomas Jefferson, and later the Indian Removal Act under Andrew Jackson and The California Act for the Government and Protection of Indians showed the true heartlessness of the westward frontiersmen of the time. Wealth and power were the only goals for these men and they would stop at nothing to achieve these ends.

The Trail of Tears had a negative impact on the westward expansion. I firmly believe this because poor native americans were forced out of their homes so that we could have the desirable land that we had craved for. Over 4,000 indians died in the process of this Trail of Tears which made the Americans feel a sense of power and superiority over the Native Americans. And lastly, the amount of indians that died wasn’t the worst part, the labor that we put them through was enough that if we were put through that labor and mistreatment, us making it out alive would be improbable.
