The primary non-profit, non-governmental organisation and association focused on future librarianship is the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). The organisation was established on September 30, 1927, at the UK Library Association's Annual Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, with the goal of advancing global collaboration, dialogue, and research in all areas of library activity. It is located in Prins Willem-Alexanderhof 5 in The Hague, Netherlands and this association is led by Barbara Lison.

The IFLA, which was launched in 1929 with 15 members from 15 nations, is the umbrella organisation for the majority of library associations, librarians, and libraries worldwide. By the end of 1996, over 144 countries were represented by registered members; as of the present, there are more than 1500 registered members, who collectively represent roughly 150 countries.

OCLC is member-led and member-driven. Members guide the development of our programs, policies, strategies, and services. This year we realized several firsts and reached new milestones, from member attendance levels at global meetings to innovative approaches and collaboration. More than 1,200 members attended a Regional Council meeting this past year—in Thailand, South Africa, or the United States. Members also engage with the cooperative through advisory committees, user groups, and special task forces. These groups are vital to our cooperative; member communities directly inform our services, programs, and decisions. Our membership is global and growing. Member libraries have a voice through their elected representatives. Three regional councils—the Americas Regional Council, the Asia-Pacific Regional Council, and the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Regional Council—encourage local collaboration and support the regional needs, communications, and discussions that are most important to members in their communities.16,857 members in 113 countries.

Participation or membership from other countries and associations :

Collaborating on a global scale

Sixty OCLC member libraries from art museums in 16 countries came together to build an art-focused research experience within WorldCat. The decisions of these two organizations are carried out by the Secretariat, which is led by the Director-General. The Organization's headquarters are in Paris, and it has more than 50 field offices spread out over the globe.

There are 6 programs that have helped UNESCO achieve its goals. The 6 programs are education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information. Programs for teacher training, technical education, and literacy are some of the initiatives supported by UNESCO. UNESCO also makes the selection of potential World Heritage Sites. A World Heritage Site is a significant, unique, captivating, or lovely location. If a location is listed as a World Heritage Site, it cannot be destroyed because it contains knowledge that will be valuable in the future. For instance, the Uluru provides extensive information about Aboriginal culture. UNESCO supports the Millennium Development Goals and is a part of the United Nations Development Group.

UNESCO’s FUTURE PLANNING

The Futures of Education programme of UNESCO seeks to transform education and influence the future. An international discussion on how information, education, and learning need to be redefined in a world of rising complexity, unpredictability, and precarity is being sparked by the project. Educational planning must keep up with the numerous changes that are continually transforming our environment if it is to be relevant in the future. There are many elements impacting the condition of education today and in the future, including globalisation, growing urbanisation, enormous technology breakthroughs, the dangers of conflict, and climate change.

In an era of fast change, educational planners and administrators must stay on top of all these developments and devise new planning strategies. To address issues and seize new opportunities, they must modernise their procedures and implement fresh policy instruments.

In light of this, IIEP-UNESCO is happy to announce the release of the first two papers in its Foresight Series, a research initiative designed to assist managers and decision-makers in the field of education in adapting their operations to a changing environment. Each essay examines the advantages and disadvantages of a certain education effort in a particular nation. The paper's objective is to promote debate on its implications for education policy, planning, and management in a concise, readable style.

The first two instalments of this new series take us to Spain to examine the existing policy instruments to combat school segregation in Catalonia and the United Kingdom to examine the role of academies and free schools in the trend toward decentralisation and school empowerment.

I believe it will be intriguing to watch how OCLC develops in the future. Given the poor data quality and subpar computer applications that the company offers, as well as the way that it takes advantage of its employees and disparages the library profession, I believe that more and more libraries will start to come to the conclusion that they are not getting their money's worth from the company. OCLC will eventually be exposed for the profit-driven international conglomerate that it is, not the nonprofit institution dedicated to preserving cultural history that it claims to be. As a result, libraries may be forced to innovate and develop better, in-house solutions to library needs than a sizable, remote, and disconnected organisation could ever do. Libraries may also be freed from their ties to OCLC. Libraries will encourage actual resourcefulness. Libraries will encourage genuine resource sharing, which doesn't necessitate people sending their limited financial resources to Ohio. Libraries will be able to buy resources for their patrons with more of their finances this way.

The best UN platform for discussing the effects of these and other developments is still UNESCO. However, UNESCO can adapt to the needs of the Southern states that make up the bulk of its membership, and in certain fundamental areas, like cultural diversity, it takes a rather firm stance.
