The amount of water affects the number of seeds germinated. This is shown in our data table with the difference between the number of seeds germinated with 5 milliliters of water and 10. The class average for 5 was 4 seeds germinated, and for 10, 8.7 seeds germinated. This is because water softens the shell of the seed giving the embryo room to grow. It also gives the plant oxygen and activates enzymes that are needed for respiration, the process that makes the plants energy.

Over the entire experiment, 0 drops increased from 10 duckweed to 12 while 15 drops increased more than double, starting also at 10 and ending with 35. This is due to the Nitrates and phosphates in the fertilizer. Nitrogen is needed to start the growth, and phosphates are needed for developing flowers, fruits, and root systems. This is what caused the increase in growth.

Proximity to water increases the biodiversity of insects because bugs rely on water for egglaying and drinking. In the experiment, we found that the hill farthest away from the water, the hill had a Simpsons Diversity Index of .46, while the marsh close to the water had a .75. This is because the bugs need plants to survive, and plants rely on the water for photosynthesis. This is a process in which the water makes it own food.

Light decreases the amount of carbon in a jar of spinach because of photosynthesis. We saw this when the leaves in the dark increased carbon by 723 and the leaves in light decreased carbon by 422. This is because plants need light and carbon to do photosynthesis, and they produce oxygen in return.

Germination in seeds increases respiration because of cell-building activities. This was seen in the experiment when both the carbon dioxide levels in the germinated and ungerminated seed containers started at around 410 and germinated increased to 529 while ungerminated only increased to 477. This is seen because cellular respiration gives the plant energy. While the plant is ungerminated, it is entirely asleep because it doesn't need to do anything other than stay alive. On the other hand, when it is germinating, it grows and creates cells. These cell-building activities need energy, and because they can't create food through photosynthesis, their only source of energy is cellular respiration, and when that goes up, carbon goes up.

Higher sugar concentration decreases the mass of potatoes left in the solution because of osmosis. The potatoes left in water with no sugar had a 10% increase in mass while the potatoes left in 0.8 sugar concentration decreased by 32.5%. This is because water follows the sugar because the water molecules get caught in the sugar molecule. This means whichever has more sugar is where the water will go.
