Those lived, approximately, in the 600BC.
Around 55BC, the romans, who spoke Latin, invaded the British Isles, making a mix of culture and language with the groups that were There.
Also called Old English (The Anglo Saxons are also called Old English? Take a look at how you wrote the sentence), the Anglo Saxons, developed from the West Germanic dialects spoken by the Angles, Saxons, and the jutes, who occupation (occuppied) the England. After, was the time of The Vikings,  in 789 AD,  left behind many words in the language like: you, husband, law and anger.
The Middle English was marked by the advancement of books, the printing was created and made the made the language boost!
Shakespeare made (HAD) a huge influence in the english language (Remember to put all languages and nationalities in capital letters) in 1564 - 1616, period of the Renaissance. He He was a creative inventor of new words and his words are still in use today.
Nowadays, the English is present everywhere, always adapting and gaining support around the world.

Words like "water" are pronounced differently although it means the same thing.

As a cancer girl (I am a cancer boy myself!) that I am, i fell in love with these expressions, especially "love is blind" and "heart of gold".
Although, these expressions are not used in the present day, they are the basis for many expressions that we use everyday.
