When I saw the video of Wang Yan's speech [1], I just thought that the girl spoke very well. The round table had so many meanings, and the girl's knowledge level was very high. Upon seeing this video, I went to check the knowledge about round tables. Based on my research, I want to use this short film production to bring the round table culture to more people.

The earliest round table can be traced back to the meeting between King Arthur and his generals in the 5th century [2]. The round table conference is just like the bonfire party in China, where everyone is surrounded in a circle. There is no one who comes first, only freedom and equality, so that everyone does not have to worry about class and can speak freely.

In ancient China, round tables also appeared, which gradually became integrated into people's lives and gradually kept pace with square tables. In China, round tables represented happiness and luck. Later, the meaning of round tables gradually made more people understand and give their own ideas [3].

My final film will focus on round table. It starts with a speech video. I conceive a scene where a family is sitting around a round table, where the old man's position is empty. Although he has passed away, the dishes and chopsticks belonging to him are still placed on the table, as if he has been there all the time, and the family can be happy and reunited during the festival. Then there is a story about making round tables. The audience will see the wood and tools used to make round tables. The young carpenter go from learning craftsmanship to living with craftsmanship day after day. Finally, he passes this craftsmanship to younger generation, proving that the technique should be passed on from generation to generation, and can not be buried in the long river of time.

Sources:

[1] Yan.
