It’s a whole new challenging world for me. I did a lot of research on the novels and movies which picture the view of cyberspace. In the sci-fiction pieces in the 80s, Japanese elements blowout miraculously. In an 80s perspective, if the imagination must happen in Japan, in Tokyo. When we try to explain the definition of cyberpunk, we can figure out it’s the combination of contrast and multiple cultures.

It's a bit tricky for me. After I finish the design sketch, I got really confused where to start making. So during the class, I asked Mary how to make it. The point of this puppet is to make a flat form first and then fix the joints. In the beginning I thought I could make a wooden flat form first and then use clay to fill the body. I don't have wood board so I replaced it with acrylic board. The effect was better than I thought because the transparent acrylic board provided a stronger sense of future. So I used it as a main element of the horse puppet.
To save more time, I didn't make the joint-flexible figure by myself but used a wooden figure. I made the first mask in the class with kitchen foil. Since I'm not so sure about what my cyber Mulan will be like, so I chose to work on the materials and colours to catch some feelings. I was thinking about using the second mask as part of the character design, but after Gary saw this mask, he pointed out some questions I hadn't thought of. What is the purpose of wearing the mask? Mulan and the horse kept falling down. It almost drove me mad. I'm not that satisfied with the final film. Gary gave me some comments on it so I decided to reshoot it. In the new version, I played with the lighting more and fixed the problem the horse's feet. To solve the problem of Mulan falling down from the horse, I stick a straw from her body to the horse and fixed it with plasticine.
