Whether or not someone achieves their aims is mostly a question of luck. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 10/10/2025

ĐO NGOC NAM KHANH

It is sometimes argued that success in achieving personal goals largely depends on luck rather than effort or ability. While I agree that luck can play a minor role in determining outcomes, I believe that consistent hard work, determination, and strategic thinking are far more decisive factors.
Admittedly, luck may occasionally influence a person’s achievements. Many individuals have benefited from being in the right place at the right time or meeting influential people by chance. For example, several successful entrepreneurs attribute their initial breakthroughs to unexpected opportunities or fortunate encounters that accelerated their progress. Moreover, external circumstances beyond one’s control—such as economic conditions or political stability—can also shape whether a plan succeeds or fails, regardless of effort. In these cases, luck does indeed act as a catalyst that can either ease or hinder the path to success.

However, relying on luck alone is highly unreliable, and most achievements stem from persistence and competence. Those who set realistic goals, work diligently, and learn from failures are much more likely to succeed in the long run. For instance, professional athletes or scientists attain excellence through years of disciplined training and research rather than random fortune. Furthermore, even when luck opens doors, it is only sustained effort and skill that allow individuals to make the most of such opportunities. Without preparation, a lucky break would be meaningless or short-lived.

In conclusion, although luck can occasionally contribute to one’s success, it is not the primary determinant. Hard work, resilience, and preparation play a far greater role in achieving lasting goals. Therefore, I firmly disagree with the notion that success depends mostly on luck.
