The event retraces the massacre in which seven mafia gangsters died. They were all part of the Irish mafia. Those people were opposed to the members of the italian mafia in Chicago. The ordre of the attack came from Al Capone. This massacre haoppened during the Prohibition era. As alcohol was forbidden through the 18th amendment, many liquor traffic were installed by mafia gang to earn money. A new phrase was born from this time: "bootlmegging". It refers to people who were hidding bottles of liquor in their boots. 

The irony of that time was that people feared Al capone beacuse of his actions, but they respected him. Indeed, he organized many free distribution of food called the soup kitchen. he used to rule Chicago with his killer gang and also be generous by helpin,g poor people in need.

The reknown policeman who put an end to Al Capone's massacres and fear over the city is Eliot Ness. He used to be a part of the American Treasure police. He has fought his entire carreer agaisnt Al Capone's crimes, to make them stop. Moreover, even if many historians assure that those two foes never met are wrong. A picture clearly shows Eliot Ness escorting Al Capone to prison. Many historians affirm that Al Capon's legal defensers didn't him enough to avoid him troubles with justice, even though he deserved it.

It is an unsolved crime even though people think it is linked to Al Capone. 

Al Capone has built a whole empire based on bootlegging, prostitution but also gambling. He ran soup kitchens in order to help the working class. 

To fight against those gangs, a team of law enforcement agents from Chicago was created. It was called "The Untouchables" and was leaded by Eliot Ness. There was a constant fight between Al Capone and him. He tracked him for years.

The prime suspect was Al Capone, head of Chicago's crime syndicate. Moran's North Side gang, the largest obstacle to the Capone organization's power in metropolitan Chicago, had hijacked Capone's liquor shipments, competed in protection rackets, and murdered Capone allies. Law enforcement officials could not prove any involvement by Capone, who was in Miami at the time. No one was ever tried for the killings.

The raid's cold-blooded efficiency left the public in shock, and the St. Valentine's Day Massacre came to symbolize gang violence. It confirmed popular images associating Chicago with mobsters, crime, and spectacular carnage. The site of the warehouse, razed in 1967, continues to draw tourists from around the world.

Eliot Ness was the FBI agent assigned to tracking Al Capone.
One of Capone's men paid Ness a visit in Chicago's Transportation Building. He offered to pay Ness $2,000 to stop ruining Capone's businesses and promised an additional $2,000 each week following if he continued to cooperate. Outraged, Ness ordered the man out and immediately called the press into his office. The United States were ruled by gangs at the time. It was the Prohibition Era.

Al Capone is certainly Chicago's most notorious gangster. He had built an empire based on bootlegging, prostitution and gabeling operation while he helped the working class with his soup kitchens. 

However the rise of bootlegging led to a succession of gang wars and the Saint Valentine's day massacre, on february 14th, 1929, is a reminder of that. Al Capone's Gang shot seven members of the rival gang: George "bugs" Moran, even if those murders remain officialy unsolved. 

This act of violence still epitomizes wars between gangs and it is also a huge symbol of Chicago, and the cliches that comes with it.

Ness is the prohibition agent who tracked down Al Capone for years. He led a team of law inforcement nicknamed "the untouchables" in order to take Al Capone down. 

Al Capone was take down because of "taxes" not because of his crimes.
