To give us an opportunity to stop while reading and concentrate on a potentially unfamiliar term. During these times we will discuss the new word, then add it to our word wall, then continue with the lesson.

2. To provide a visual resource for new vocabulary terms. This word wall gives students a way to scaffold the use of these new terms into their everyday vocabulary. When testing out these words, they can simply look up and find them on the word wall to see definitions and visual examples of that word.

3. To provide the backdrop for vocab review games. With this virtual word wall made manifest, we could use it to play vocab review games like Swat. 

4. To provide alternative activities for students who can not handle the interactive activity we are currently doing. Sometimes, students have trouble following directions and you must separate them from the activity or risk the activity degrading into complete and utter chaos. To respond to this situation, it could be as easy as telling Billy Bob to sit in the safe seat and either copy words and definitions off of the word wall or use the words from the word wall in sentences.

5. You could also have your students be the ones that make the word wall. At the end of each lesson, you could provide a time for students to share whatever words they were unfamiliar with.
