Today was the first meeting of VIDEO PROJECT 2024. A few weeks prior, I had filled out a form to choose the roles I'd like to be assigned for this year's project. I chose 'Performer' and 'Hair & Makeup'. I was assigned these roles. In today's meeting, we met our director, Vedad Rusidovic. He showed us the script of Snapshot and explained his vision. At this point, I knew I was on the Hair & Makeup department, so I began brainstorming some ideas of the potential colour palette and aesthetic of the film, in which the makeup and hair can work well with. I spoke to the other people on my department, Claudia and Hollie, and we worked out what vibe we like. Furthermore, we read through the script for the first time - I read the stage directions, which I found helpful as it allowed me to understand the character's body language and reason for movement, as well as understanding the storyline further. We were given instructions by the AD's, Lucy and Sophie, to audition for the roles via. Self-Tape, in which I received a request to audition for the role of the lead, Grace.

During the first week, it was discussed that the era the Assistant Director's wanted 'Snapshot' to be set in was the 90's. This narrowed down our research and gave us a chance to focus on different 90's inspired looks that we believed may fit each character.

WEEK 2 - 04/03/24

Throughout the past week, I filmed my self-tape for the roles of Grace and Noah, whilst continuing my research and Pinterest boards for the film. When this meeting rolled around, each department met up, and we discussed the progress in our research/options. We are working closely with the costume department, to make sure the hair and makeup go well with the costumes picked for each character. This was still quite basic as we were unsure who had been cast as who at this point. Half-way through the meeting, the AD's and Vedad called us performers in to discuss our roles- I have been given the role of Grace. I'm aware this role is very hands-on, which means my work prior to filming is extremely important - therefore, I can take a step back during filming and post-production. Due to everybody being given their roles, this helped us out a lot, as we knew what would suit each character, and was able to discuss with other performers about what they may feel comfortable and/or uncomfortable with putting on their face and using on their head.

AGENT 2'S HAIR

Hair ideas for Maya, who will be playing AGENT 2. We have discussed the idea of using temporary hair-colour in her hair to make Joe and her look similar, however Maya is uncomfortable with the idea. To work around this, the idea of slick-back hair is in consideration.

WEEK 3 - 11/03/24

This week, I brought my own make-up to the meeting with me, allowing Claudia and I to experiment with different looks - we have decided and discussed with other performers that we are just going to use our own makeup on ourselves, as most people feel comfortable with this, as well as allowing us to use more of the budget money towards set design and location. Furthermore, we tested out different looks, and began figuring out what would work well for Grace's character, as well as how difficult my hair will be to work with.

I was unable to attend today's meeting due to an Ophthalmology appointment, however continued my work and research at home. I have been working on the characterisation of Grace, as well as experimenting with some more make-up looks. Claudia, Hollie and I have also discussed the make-up and hair of the other performers, deciding that 'Lily' will be wearing a full-glam look.

I have been using the 'Writing Kylie' article - 'Get to know your character in 73 questions' to understand Grace. I have found that at this point, there are still a lot of unanswered questions - this may be due to changes of scripts, but also maybe due to needing to perform. I have found it extremely interesting to get to know her though.

DAY 1 - REHEARSALS: 15/04/2024

Today we began rehearsals. We began the process of practicing the scenes shot-by-shot, testing out potential angles and camera's. This was incredibly helpful- although we haven't finished yet, this gave me an insight to the Vedad's vision, and helped get a feel for shooting days. Furthermore, this also allowed me to begin acting with the other performers, and develop the character of Grace further.

DAY 2- REHERSALS: 16/04/2024

We spent the day carrying on with rehearsals. I found today extremely helpful, not just with the camera angles, but with my own personal development with Grace's character. I feel today has been a huge jump from the energy yesterday, and really gave me an insight on how to play Grace. Additionally, I helped with finalising my costume, as well as my hair and makeup. We also finalised the hair and makeup of other performers.

DAY 3 - DAY OFF SET

Today was a day to ourselves, to finalise anything before filming begins tomorrow. I made sure I had all my costumes sorted, and my hair and make-up trialled and ready. Furthermore, I studied the script more, making sure I knew my cues and my lines, ready to begin tomorrow.

DAY 4 - DAY 1 OF FILMING: 18/04/2024

Today was the first day of filming - we filming in Stockport, with a call time of 1:30. There were only a small crew of us today. I feel as though this was definitely beneficial for the first day of shooting - it allowed us to get a feel for the process and get to know each other's working style. I do feel as though we worked well together, all remaining calm and collected. We finished earlier than scheduled, allowing us time to pack-up and debrief the day, understanding what went well and what didn't.

DAY 5 - DAY 2 OF FILMING: 19/04/2024

Today was day 2 of filming, at the Bolton Town Hall. Today, all the crew was called to set. We filmed 'Scene 1', which I feel went fairly well for a full day of filming, with the full crew. I felt as though this scene was very technical, so a lot of concentration and communication was required. In terms of hair and make-up, it had been agreed by everyone that I will only do my own hair and make-up, however I had help from Hollie to speed up the process. Depending on whether or not I'm needed on Wednesday, however, will allow me to do other performer's make-up and hair.

DAY 6- DAY 3 OF FILMING: 22/04/20

Today we were filming the hospital scene and the interrogation scene at the university's clinic. I arrived and did my own hair and make-up, and went straight onto set when it was ready. We spent a good hour and a half filming this scene, getting as many angles and variations as we good. There were some lighting issues and some camera issues, however they were resolved quickly. I do feel as though the continuity was a little bit of a struggle, as there wasn't much documentation of what Queeneth and I were doing, as well as struggling to remember what we did in our last take. When it came down to the agent scene, I feel as though we were all very prepared, considering we did not have much time to film it. We all knew our lines, and took directions well. The continuity of this scene was a little bit easier, however I still feel as though the documentation of the way I moved and emphasised lines was still lacking slightly. Overall, however, a successful filming day.

DAY 7 - DAY 4 OF FILMING: 23/04/2024

We were back at the magistrates court today, filming the court scene, and the scene leading up to it. I feel as though today ran smoothly, and I worked professionally, allowing the directors to get their shots done how they wanted them, in a timely matter. Working with Robyn, who played Noah, I feel worked well - we had worked on this scene in rehearsals and prior to filming, which allowed us to play around with the space we had and the timings. Due to their being more than one camera shooting from different angles at the same time, this allowed Robyn and I to play around with the scene and try out different ways of performing it, without having to worry TOO much about continuity, and I feel like there were a few good takes for the editors to choose from. In terms of continuity and performance in the shots leading up to the court scene (the travelling scene), I think it was a lot better, and easier as we did these shots in a minimum amount of takes, and continuity was great in helping me remember what arm I used, or what way I turned my head etc. I did my own hair and make-up today, with a little bit of help from Hollie, who helped me multitask in order for me to make the call-time, on time.

Today, I had the day off! I sorted out my costumes and restocked my make-up, and prepared for the monologue scene the next day. Today was all about making sure I was prepared.

DAY 9- DAY 6 OF FILMING: 25/04/2024

Today, we were filming in Warrington. Hollie and I set off at 7, making set at 8:25. Today was a jam-packed one. We began with the monologue - we had to make me look 13 years older, so Hollie did my make-up, using eyeliner and eyeshadow to create an older look, as well as making my hair look shorter. I did find myself stressing over this monologue, I think it was 1. due to making sure it is timed right to the shooting schedule, 2. making sure my lines are right, and 3. the continuity aspect, for the editors. It took a while to get a good take, however I think we got there. I then changed back into my costume for the photo-shoot scene, and filmed the scenes leading up to the night of the photograph. I did my own hair and make-up again, and these scenes went smoothly. I then had another hair and make-up/costume change, into my pyjamas, where we filmed the scenes where I wake up due to the noise, the bat scene and the passing out scene. Furthermore, we finished the day with the TV scene. This was a very jam-packed day, quite non-stop, however it was successful and I'm ready for the last day of filming tomorrow.

Today was the final day of filming, I wore 2 different costumes and 2 different make-up and hairstyles. I had to have fake-blood for the final scene, which was provided by Robyn and applied by Claudia. Today went okay, I feel as though I was extremely focused today. I was eager to just get on with it. The filming went smoothly, only having to get a few takes per shot. The final scene was tricky - the bath scene- trying to manoeuvre in and out of the bathtub. We also reshot a scene from yesterday, as well as getting some radio-play. After that, it was a wrap!
