I survived the shark attacks of 1916 is the story of Chet Roscow finally feeling at home in Elm Hills, New Jersey. He has a job with his uncle Jerry at the local diner, three great friends, and the perfect summer time destination: cool, refreshing Matawan Creek. But Chet's summer is interrupted with shocking news. A Great White shark has been attacking swimmers along the Jersey shore, not far from Elm Hills. Everyone is talking about it. So when Chet sees something in the water he thinks its his imagination... until he comes face to face with a bloodthirsty shark!

There has been reports and deaths of shark attacks in this creek. Which have led to hunts aimed towards these sharks in this creek. Resort towns enclosed their public beaches as well with steel nets to protect swimmers.

This was a major event because they had to build shark nets in order to swim without harm. If they didn't have these nets more sharks could come in and kill and hurt/injure more people than the people that were originally killed or hurt. Shark nets are a major safety thing that protects people and animals.

One of the themes in the book is the Matawan creek. This picture relates to the theme in the book because there is people swimming and in the water just playing around. The thing that helped me identify the theme is people in the creek just like this guy in the water.

I learned so much about the shark attacks while reading the I Survived Shark Attacks Of 1916. I didn't realize what these people must have gone threw. I didn't know that a shark could get in a creek. Also I wonder how they killed the shark and hunted it down without getting in the water and getting injured or killed. One major thing I learned is that they were brave enough to hunt and kill a shark without getting injured or possibly death.
