Fact #1 - Hydropower is one of the oldest power sources on the planet fact #2 - generating power when flowing water spins a wheel or turbine #3 - It was used by farmers as far back as ancient Greece for mechanical tasks like grinding grain #4 - Hydropower is also a renewable energy source and produces no air pollution or toxic byproducts #5 Hydroelectric power is the most commonly used renewable energy source #6 - The oldest hydroelectric plant is Cragside in Rothbury , England #7 - The largest hydroelectric plant is La Grande in Quebec , Canada. #8 - The first hydroelectric plant in the United States opened Sept 30, 1882 on the Fox River near Appleton, Wisconsin #9 - Niagara Falls is one of the major hydroelectric plants in the United States #10 - The largest site in the U.S. is Grand Coulee in Washington which has 33 generators

fact #1 - When cooled to -260 degrees F, natural gas becomes a liquid #2 - The natural gas dug out of the earth today was formed about 100 million years ago #3 - In its pure state, natural gas is odorless #4 - While propane gas is heavier than air, natural gas is lighter #5 - Natural gas is the earth's cleanest burning hydrocarbon #6 - Its combustion does not produce ash residues, sulphur oxides, and only negligible nitrogen #7 - Natural gas forms organically over millions of years from decomposing plant and animal matter that is buried in sedimentary rock layers #8 - Methane, or CH4, is the primary component of natural gas #9 - Some of this gas makes it to the surface naturally showing up in seeps, while the other gas molecules move until they are trapped in impermeable layers of rock, shale, salt, or clay #10 - When it is found in nature, raw natural gas may also contain some mixture of butane, propane, and pentane gasses, as well as some nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapour.

fact #1 - Wind energy was first developed with windmills in 200 bc in persia and china #2 - Wind energy was then used for hundreds of years to pump water and crush grain #3 - People also used sails on sail boats as a form of wind power #4 - The first modern turbine was built in Vermont in the 1940s #5 - Turbine towers normally stand over 328 ft tall #6 - Newer, more advanced turbine blades are extending over 300 feet #7 - The largest turbine created is located in Hawaii it is twenty stories tall and each blade is the length of a football field #8 - Wind energy is the only form of alternative energy that doesn’t require water #9 - Turbines are getting taller to reach faster, more constant winds higher in the atmosphere. The higher you go the faster the winds and the more energy that can be produced #10 - The US Energy Department provides a wind resource map that shows average wind speeds and potential wind energy capacity if you want to install a wind turbine in your area.
