On March 22, World Earth Day is celebrated, a day marked by debates on the balance of the planet. For some decades now, scientists have been concerned about the fate of the planet. In the 1990s, it was the turn of the greenhouse effect, when, for the first time, we discussed worldwide the effects of human interference in the ozone layer. A few years later, the focus was on the search for another type of fuel other than gasoline, since the use of fossil fuels impaired the planetary balance, in addition to being a finite natural resource. Then we are concerned with the water crisis and whether there will be drinking water in a few decades. More recently, we have turned our attention to climate change, blaming a possible global warming that would have altered the temperature of the seas and, with this, accelerated the process of melting, alteration of the global climate, among other effects. All pertinent concerns that demonstrate how much we are struggling to understand our role in the world.
