Parents of grade 4 are mostly positive with the process of learning until now. They like the idea of doing formative assessments and are asking for more graded work (tests, for example) to know the level of their child. At the same time, they are asking for more books to read in Albanian, because the main concern is related to the reading of English books during library time and not Albanian. An idea came out here for students to have a chance to read Albanian books.

Grade 5 parents feel good and positive. Their major focus is on the exhibition unit this time. They wanted to know if students are going to prepare something in Albanian as well just like in the previous years in order to present the learning in other languages, not just English.

The parents were really pleased with their child’s progress and were happy to see that their child enjoys coming to the lessons. Many of them expressed interest in investing more in materials, recognizing their child’s growing passion and commitment to art. Moreover, the class representative suggested organizing an additional activity to further support the students’ learning.

Parents overall seem happy with how their children are progressing. Most have expressed how they like that homework is sent home because it helps for the children to focus at home. Behavior is still a concern of some of the parents, as some students are escalating verbal fights to physical fights.

Parents of KG-B were super positive about the learning. They were pleased to see the progress and considered the transition smooth. However, there were some parents who were not happy with the grading system for their young children. Some even mentioned that there should be a nap time, as the long school day (8:00 AM to 3:15 PM) is quite exhausting for them.

One concern was about MYP students in the bathrooms on the floor, which was putting off some PYP students from using it at times.

G4A

From established long staying families and parents:

Happy with the progress and learning engagements in class. They feel the reports and teacher's assessments/comments match and reflect their child's abilities and personality.

Discussions focused more about asking help on extension activities; curricular and extra curricular, international academic contests, college counseling and other interesting resources.

From Albanian parents who transferred from the British School:

Happy with academic engagements but worried about the disruptions in the classes and non-reporting of issues (esp if they happened during specialist classes). I needed to; unpack the many nuances of the circumstance, clarify misconceptions, and update them on recent solutions but somehow still skeptical of management's unclear explanation why the situation was not controlled from prior years and staffing resources were not allocated earlier in the year. They however confirmed their ongoing support for me, and hopeful about forthcoming improvements.

Commented about the few good quality book collection at the library (asking us to host regular book fairs), high number of EAL students in one class, lack of good air conditioning (heating, cooling and dehumidifier), lack of learning resources and intimidating interactions with MYP students.

From other new international parents:

They feel lost with Managebac and the PYP - maybe year-round MB and PYP parent workshops should be hosted ?

From me:

I think we need to have ongoing Service Learning engagements, DEIJ and Mental Health awareness campaigns to educate (parents and students) and create a more compassionate school culture. This is a timely undertaking when schools and organisations across the world are designing their DEIJ and wellbeing frameworks and commitments.
