Warm greetings from the NIE Graduate Student Club (NIEGSC)!  
 
We would like to invite you to our upcoming NIEGSC Graduate Student Talk Event: How to Publish in Top Journals as Graduate Students? 
The aims of the event are:  
·       to provide a platform for graduate students to share their problems and experience in paper publication and receive advice and tips from fellow and senior students,  among graduate students,  
·       to provide a chance for graduate students to meet peers with various backgrounds, and   
·       to help students become familiar with the publication process to improve self-belief and confidence 
This is a get-together of graduate students. We will invite Ms. Zhu Xuelian, a senior graduate student from NIE, to share her publication experiences. She is selected for her seniority background, diverse study and work experiences, and remarkable publication achievement. Please see the speaker’s bio and publication by Feb 2023 in the attachment.  
 
Though our speaker Xuelian has most of her publications in the Applied Linguistic field, she will share some publication experiences and tips that are transferrable to other disciplines. In this way, all graduate students from NIE will have their own takeaways from this event, no matter what academic group you are in.

Learning by Heart: The Art and Science of the Memorised Poem in English in Singapore Classrooms

Description: This study examines the history and practice of learning poetry in English by heart in Singapore, including attitudes towards poetry memorisation.

Duration: Around 10 minutes, online survey

Requirements: At least 21 years old, studied in Singapore schools, and have experience learning poetry in English

Benefits: It will help participants to reflect on their own practice, and improve the teaching and learning of poetry in the Literature classroom.
