         <title>August 30, 1939 - September 1, 1939 - World War II Begins </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The day before the invasion of Poland, Nazi operatives were being posed as Polish military officers to stage a situation in which they plan an attack on the radio station in the city of Gleiwitz. Germany used this situation to their advantage as it played a role in the invasion of Poland.  On September 1, 1939 German forces that were under control Adolf Hitler bombed Poland. Eventually, this invasion has led to the beginning of World War II. </div>]]></description>

         <title>April 8, 1940 - Norway Is Invaded</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>German warships enter Norwegian ports deploying thousands of German troops and eventually obtaining Norway. With the mines that Britain has laid around the Norwegian ports, they were able to use this as an advantage in invading Norway. During this same time period, German forces were also able to obtain Copenhagen and other Danish cities. Germany also ended a six month period of limited land operations which was also called the "Phony War." </div>]]></description>

         <title>May 10, 1940 - German Invasion Of Western Europe </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>German troops take over Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, and France in less than six weeks. British and French commanders believed that the German forces would attack through central Belgium but they began to go through the Ardennes Forest in Belgium.  With France signing an armistice in June, Great Britain is the only country fighting Nazi Germany. Germany and others began to enable anti-Jewish policies and laws that would be used in western Europe. </div>]]></description>

         <title>June 14, 1940 - Paris Falls To The Nazis </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On June 14, 1940, citizens of Paris wake up to the sound of a German voice stating that a curfew was being mandated for 8 P.M the evening in which German troops enter France. German tanks began to outflank the Maginot Line and eventually were deep into France. Eventually, Paris falls to Nazi Germany one month after German Wehrmacht storms France. Paris fell to the Nazis due to poor leadership, poor equipment, etc. </div>]]></description>

         <title>December 7, 1941 - Pearl Harbor</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>President Roosevelt and his advisers had a good prediction stating that a Japanese attack would happen alongside with a high chance but they still decided to not increase the protection of the base. At 7:55 AM, a Japanese dive bomber representing the Rising Sun of Japan appears from the skies and above the island of Oahu. 360 Japanese warplanes begin to follow and eventually descend on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy and eventually involved the US in the war. </div>]]></description>

         <title>December 8, 1941 - The United States Declaring War Against Japan</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On December 8, 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt requests and receives a declaration of war against Japan. The United States Congress declared war on Japan in which the previous day a surprise attack occurred. (Pearl Harbor) It was declared a hour after the Infamy Speech that was given by President Franklin D Roosevelt. FDR signed the declaration at 4:10 PM wearing a black armband to mourn the lives that were lost in the attack of Pearl Harbor. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On September 8, 1943 Gen. Dwight Eisenhower publicly announces  the surrender of Italy to the Allies. Mussolini was removed from power and the collapse of the fascist government  led to Gen. Pietro Badoglio negotiating with Gen. Eisenhower. Eventually, Gen. Pietro Badoglio approved a surrender which allowed the Allies to land in southern Italy. While the situation was taking place, Hitler launched Operation Axis which was the occupation of Italy. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>General Dwight D. Eisenhower gave the confirmation for the largest military operation for this specific mission. The United States and allied troops invade Normandy. This event was known to be the largest invasion in the world. The goal of this invasion, was to surprise Germany but Germany was prepared and they were ready to go to war.  This day is known as the D-Day in which the D in D-Day stood for Day. </div>]]></description>

         <title>August 6, 1945 - The U.S Drops An Atomic Bomb On Hiroshima, Japan. </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The United States have been working on scenarios on how to develop an atomic weapon due to Nazi Germany already trying to conduct an experiment on atomic weapons.  On August 6, 1945, the United States became the first nation to use atomic weapons during the war in which they dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Around 80,000 people were killed due to the direct blast while another 35,000 people were injured.  After the bombing, Japan eventually surrendered. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan surrenders to the Allies which brings an end to World War II. The Japanese navy and air force were destroyed. The surrender of Japan was announced by Japanese  Emperor Hirohito on August 15th and was formally signed on September 2, 1945. During WWII, around 75 million people died in WWII which can include 20 million military personnel and 40 million civilians. </div>]]></description>
