There are both reading and writing activities.  Most reading activities are answered through multiple choice with some short answer questions which allow you to write a response and support your reasoning. Other written exercises include a news report and a series of paragraphs.  Check out the sample OSSLT below to see what this test really looks like. If you want to try the test, the answers to the multiple choice are provided as well.

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test will be written on Thursday, March 27th for students in Grade 10 and for students in Grade 11 and 12 who have not been previously successful.

  • Students who are enrolled in an ESL program will either be deferred
      from writing the test this year, or will be able to write with
      accommodations.
  • Students who have an IEP may write the test with the accommodations
      (e.g. extra time, preferred seating, use of computers and/or assistive
      technology) listed in their IEP.
  • Students not working towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma
      are exempt from writing the test.
