The sun is also shining through the clouds above the man. The road and empty surroundings make it seem like he has been walking for a long time. The dark clouds contrast with the bright sun in the background. The road keeps going out of sight which shows the man has a long journey ahead of him. This connects to the man they saw because they were following him at a distance for awhile. The lightning strike is placed on the left third of the picture sandwiched between the dark clouds and the trees. The bolt almost looks like its moving and reaching out to the sides. The trees are very dark from the lack of light. The lightning makes the picture gradually get darker from left to right. The biggest relationship in this picture is between the lightning and the ground because that's what connects and causes damage. The man that they walked by had recovered from a lightning strike and this is what it looked like when he was struck. The boys head is down like his filled with different emotions. Looks almost as is he has given up. The darkness of the room and the boy from his silhouette might convey that he's hard to reach out to and closed off. The man they walked by had sat down in the road similar to this boy most likely because he needed a break. Over all his years of living he's been broken down and injured. He needed a rest. He is weak and tired and needs rest. Being in the road might suggest he was traveling and need to stop for a little so he got off his feet. He is next to a sidewalk where people could see him and help but they will most likely ignore him. Like the man and the boy did when they walked past the sitting man who needed a rest.
