Before, the only contact the kids had with the house was running up and touching it and the legends that surrounded it. Now, there's several questions to be answered - who left the things in the tree? why? who for? A quote that stands out is "Don't you know you're not supposed to even touch the trees over there? You'll get killed if you do!" An example of this separation Scout felt is on pages 41-42. “They spent days together in the treehouse plotting and planning, calling me only when they needed a third party. I think that its important to the story for the kids to know that Mr. Radley will retaliate. I also think this could get them into future trouble if they continue to provoke him. One important quote is " Says he's got the other barrel waitin' for the next sound he hears in that patch".  This means that if they decide to go in the patch again Mr. Radley is prepared to try and shoot anyone there.
