         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Claim: </strong>The spread of the Eurasian collared-dove has negatively impacted native bird species.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Evidence:</strong></div><ul><li>Occupy an ecological niche that is similar to the other members of the dove family will compete for resources with the other native birds.</li><li>It only took five years (1997-2002) for the Eurasian collared-dove to spread from the southeast corner to the northwest corner of the state of Arkansas.  The state of Arkansas has a distance of 500 km. </li><li>In 1990 the Eurasian collared-dove had only been seen in Florida and in 2012 it had been sighted throughout the US.</li><li> The Eurasian collared-dove is originally from Eurasia, but was introduced by humans into the Bahamas in the 1970s and spread from there to Florida in 1982.</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Reasoning:</strong></div><ul><li>Since the native species and the Eurasian collared-dove occupy similar niches, there is greater competition for resources. Resources will be less abundant for the native species, so there will be fewer that can survive.</li><li>Gause’s principle of competitive exclusion shows that no two species can occupy the same niche at the same time. If the native species is less fit than the invasive Eurasian collared-dove they will be forced to relocate, find a different niche, or die out. </li><li>The native birds would not have had time to adapt to the mass of invasive species because of its rapid spread. </li><li>The Eurasian collared-dove is an invasive species, which are often harmful and rapidly spreading. They spread fast and can compete aggressively against native species, which is negative.</li></ul><div><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Claim:</strong> The spread of the Eurasian Collared Dove has negatively impacted the surrounding bird species in the U.S.<br><br><strong>Evidence: </strong><br>- The Eurasian Collared-dove were originally introduced to the Bahamas in 1970 and spread to Florida by 1982. Since then, the species has continued to spread all over America and north America<br><br>- The Eurasian Collared-dove occupies the similar niche such as eating corn and wheat which also the Blue Jay eat. Blue jays are indigenous to the Americas.<br><br>- The species continues to spread at an alarming late. It took the Eurasian collared dove only 5 years to colonize the entire state of Arkansas <br><br><strong>Reasoning</strong><br>- Since the birds can travel and spread easily, it allows them to invade and strongly compete with local species for similar niches and change the natural balance.<br><br>- Because the Eurasian collared doves are nonmigratory, they are bound to outcompete native species in the coming years<br><br> - Since they can spread and colonize very easily, this allows them to quickly grow in numbers, spread to new areas, and compete with local species.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Claim:&nbsp;</strong></div><div>The Eurasian collared-dove negatively affects species such as the White-winged dove and the Mourning dove by taking up the limited space they have to breed and occupy throughout the year.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Evidence:</strong></div><ul><li>The White-winged dove breeds in southern Texas during the summer&nbsp;</li><li>The Mourning dove takes up small areas in northern South America during the winter, but the Eurasian collared-doves take up some of that space year-round.</li><li>Eurasian Collared-doves are spreading rapidly, and do not migrate during the year.&nbsp; &nbsp;</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Reasoning:</strong></div><ul><li>Because the Eurasian collared-doves take up much of the space that the White-winged doves and the Mourning doves occupy, the aforementioned doves will not be able to breed nor survive in general within these areas.</li><li>The Eurasian collared-doves take up most of the resources available for winter,with the constant spreading of the species, they will move forward in taking up the areas in which the Mourning doves have to live during certain seasons.</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Claim</div><ul><li>The spread of the Eurasian Collared-Dove has decreased the populations of the native bird species in America with the same niche and traits.</li></ul><div><br></div><div>Evidence</div><ul><li>The mourning collared-dove is no longer found in America, it is now only found in Africa, according to the map on eBird.</li><li>The population of the Eurasian collared-doves was 8 million in 2004 and increased to 110 million in 2017.</li><li>In Florida, the population size of the Scrub Jay has not drastically changed over the last 50 years.</li></ul><div><br></div><div>Reason</div><ul><li>The mourning collared-dove is no longer found in America because the Eurasian collared-dove is so similar to the mourning dove and has a similar niche, that the competition and aggressiveness of the Eurasian bird drove away the mourning collared-dove.</li><li>This drastic increase in the population size of the Eurasian Collared-Dove has provided more competition to the native birds which has decreased their population sizes.</li><li>The Scrub Jay population has not changed since they do not have the same traits of the Eurasian Collared-Dove.</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>LOOK AT THIS ONE!<br><strong>CLAIM: The population of White Winged Doves is negatively affected by the Eurasian Collared Dove, however the population of the mourning dove is not significantly affected by the spread of the Eurasian Collared Dove.&nbsp;</strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>EVIDENCE:</strong></div><ol><li>Both the White Winged Dove and the Eurasian Collared Dove consume the same things.&nbsp;</li><li>The population of the Mourning Dove has always been heavily in the northeast region of the United States while the Collared Dove is in the South and Northwest region of the United States explained by the pre-lab article.&nbsp;</li><li>The Eurasian collared-dove has stayed out of the Mourning Dove&nbsp; region due to the fact that there source no of drinking water for them.&nbsp;</li></ol><div><br><br></div><div><strong>REASONING:&nbsp;</strong></div><ol><li>According to <em>allaboutbirds.org, </em>&nbsp;the Eurasian collared-dove is a dominant species. This means that the Eurasian Collared dove may exert a certain demeanor that makes it subordinate to other species so this may make White Winged Doves have to starve or move to another food source which may be in a different part of the country.&nbsp;</li><li>The Mourning Dove has adapted to eat new things along with living in a new environment, you can this is a&nbsp; case in which why we can conclude that the Mourning Dove is the dominant species. The habitat of the bird has adapted overtime to the environment of the northeast where it mainly dominates today.&nbsp;</li><li>Both species eat the same thing and are extremely similar which would normally lead to the population of the same region, but the mourning doves can drink brackish water whereas collared doves cannot, they only drink fresh water from creeks, bottles, etc. which makes the NW of the United States most suitable as well as the middle due to the lakes that are present.&nbsp;</li></ol><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
