S.T Gill also known as Samuel Thomas Gill lived from 1818-1880 and created many lithographs through the years. S.T Gills career really started when he moved to South Australia from England in 1837 where he travelled around sketching Australian scenes and sent them to people in Britain who were interested in Australia. In 1852 ST Gill travelled to Victoria where he made his best pieces of art in the gold fields. ST Gill spent years travelling between Victoria and NSW sketching many scenes from bush rangers to gold fields and even hunting. Most of ST Gills best artworks are now in the Australian sketchbook which houses 24 lithographs and was published in 1865. Since then ST Gills artwork stile has shot up and many people paint in it but some of ST GIlls oldest pieces still stand out amongst the new.

Night Camp, is a very good piece with the first thing popping out being the fire, this is because it is the only warm thing and the fact that its in the middle which is a great start to a painting as it draws your eye in and is a great focal point. Night Camp reflects the same thing as most of ST Gills paintings this being that it shows the Early Australian life style. You can also see he has paid a lot of attention to detail from the moon, the clouds and the silhouettes to the line of the grass and shrubs he has resembled every thing perfectly.
