CMV occurs when an infection is passed across the placenta from a pregnant woman to her developing baby. Some babies with CMV infection show signs of disability at birth, while others are born healthy. CMV can cause cold sores or chickenpox. This infection can be dangerous if the pregnant mother has not had this infection before in her life.

There are some steps to prevent this such as:

1. Washing hands with soap and water regularly.

2. Not kissing young children on the face. It is better to kiss them on the forehead or give them a hug.

3. Not sharing the same food, drink or utensils with young children.
