         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Title: </strong>Aileen and Paige's CAPSTONE Project <br><strong>Thesis statement:</strong>A way that we extended our learning and got the most out of our internship was to hear the thoughts and opinions of the youth and the director we have been working with for the past 5 weeks to further enhace our learning.<strong>Summary:</strong> Through a series of interviews we filmed and conducted we will be putting together a short video documentary about the work and empowerment created and shared at PhillyCAM through the youth and staff.<br><strong>Distribution Plan:</strong>We will be each sharing our video to our social media accounts as well as asking Ariel, the director of the youth program at PhillyCAM to share it on the PhillyCAM social media pages as well<strong>.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Thesis Statement:</strong> Youth-led media has the ability to empower youth to express themselves on a larger platform</div><div> </div><div><strong>Inquiry:</strong> We observed at youth-led media as a source of inquiry at Temple Power where they were investigating topics through interviews, individual videos, and background research to create their final projects.</div><div><strong>Community Engagement:</strong> We discussed adding social justice to the curriculum for Dre’s summer group – his major concerns are working to help boost student involvement and attendance.</div><div><strong>Social Change</strong>: We learned how Dre is encouraging the youth in his program to do projects and focus on things they like but might not be comfortable talking about others with – i.e. anime.<br><strong>Outline for Final Video:</strong></div><div>Segment 1: Description of video including the title and the names of the participants</div><ul><li>Title: “Youth-Led Media ar PEC” Sara Stanton, Shannon Fuhr, Emmie DiLuzio, Nahdera Woods</li><li>Empowering Youth with bigger platforms through media. </li></ul><div>Segment 2: Nahdera will introduce the video’s content and state the thesis statement</div><ul><li>The video we are going to share will contain our experience at PEC learning more, and expressing our personal understandings of youth led-media. We also have an interview with Dre, former PEC student now staff, explaining his place and what Youth-Led media is to him.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Youth-Led Media and the YES Philly Experience<br><br>Thesis: </strong>Youth voice and empowerment is the key to student engagement. <br><br><strong>Summary: </strong>I will connect the experience I had at YES Philly to concepts that we learned in the classroom in this course, as well as in YES 300.  I stressed the need for student voice and decision making within the classroom.  When students choose the direction of their discussion and inquiry, they are more inclined to retain the information discussed. I used my own experience, class texts, and a student interview to back up these claims.</div>]]></description>
