In fact, only 13% of the world’s oceans have intact marine ecosystems, while the rest have been destroyed. This has happened because man has taken the ocean for granted and treated the ocean like a trash bin, not taking into account the wonderful marine life that live in the ocean. Ways to work towards a cleaner ocean include:
  • Reducing Your Carbon Footprint 
    • Carbon dioxide, a known greenhouse gas, is making our oceans more acidic. This is contributing to the loss of corals on a global scale as their calcium skeletons are weakened by the increasing acidity of the water. You can reduce your carbon footprint by adopting some of these simple measures:
      • Turn of the lights when you leave a room
      • Put on a jersey instead of turning on your heater
  • Stop Littering
    • Plastic is not biodegradable so if it lands in the ocean (or any other natural ecosystem), it might get swallowed by a sea creature and kill/hurt it.
